When we throw a party we all want it to be successful, we all want our friends and family to have a great time and thoroughly enjoy themselves.
So what makes a party successful?
The key signs people are enjoying themselves are laughter, smiles, conversation, ambience, and compliments to the hostess about what a good party it is.
So keep the catering, the food and drinks simple and tasty (don’t experiment on your guests unless they are use to you experimenting!), have the different food for the different times – nibbles, followed by something a little more substantial followed by sweets and coffee.
Think about the music – how much focus is it for the party – background or louder and in the foreground? Either way go through what you want to play and when. Maybe you or one of your friends is really good at bringing music together and making a playlist? This can be particularly important for New Years Eve parties etc.
Have a place for bags and coats, have the bathroom ready with extra paper etc, make sure the street number for your place is easy to see, especially at night.
Let your neighbours know you’re having a gathering if you are going to have sounds spilling out into their lives – manners can go a very long way in keeping happy relationships.
Having a focus for the gathering can help bring people into conversations and create that happy atmosphere we all want for a party.
The focus can be anything – a theme, party plan such as jewellery, photos from a recent overseas trip or wedding photos, anything that breaks the ice.
Be careful of party games as ice breakers because they are often party breakers in Australia. They may be popular in the US but many other countries feel very awkward and negative about them so avoid them.
One of the key things to making a successful party is a happy and relaxed hostess. So keep things simple, maybe have a couple of girlfriends come over early to help with the food and setting up. But either way, stay relaxed and happy – let the party flow and all will be good. 🙂
Having a gathering of the girls is about having fun and a good laugh – wheather it be around a glisttering table of jewellery or a bundle of wedding photos – remember to have fun and enjoy the moment.
