I’ve always found albatrosses alluring, there’s something about these magnificent birds flying and gliding over oceans without rest for weeks and weeks on end that captivates my imagination.
Living in Sydney we just get the regular sea gulls and it is not until I escape down the coast to Mollymook that I get to watch sea eagles or albatrosses and mollyhawks in Tasmania. I sit on sea cliffs for hours watching these amazing sea birds flying and swooping.
So this sea bird of mine has a dose of artistic licence and is my homage to the regal albatross.
Originality
I came away from watching soaring sea birds and just wanted to paint them. I must have painted dozens and dozens of them, I got lost in the painting of these birds. And out came this soaring albatross painted in water colour paint.

Each albatross is unique, giving you something special and captivating. Made in an artisan process over a series of weeks in a sunny coastal studio with multiple kiln firings, each albatross is different and reflects its handmade origin.
The albatross is part of my first series of paintings, including koalas, kangaroos, joeys, wallabies, platypuses and wombats.
